An American Institution  -  The Corner Drug Store

On August 25, 1956 James E. Ohliger opened the doors of Ohliger Drug of Fairview Park for the very first time. Over fifty years later, James' children, his son Tom Ohliger and his daughter Molly Ohliger-Lavelle carry on a proud family tradition, as fourth generation pharmacists, and owners of the Fairview Park store at 21720 Lorain Road, and the North Olmsted Ohliger Drug Store at 25300 Lorain Road.  In many communities across America the corner drug store has been obliterated by the likes of Rite Aid, Wal-Mart and Walgreens!

 FREE Delivery Service
A very important part of the service that Ohliger Drug Stores provide is the free delivery service for prescription. Today's prescription customer is increasingly concerned with mobility and transportation. If you use a wheelchair, if you are elderly, and invalid or have given up driving your own car because of illness or failing eyesight, the free delivery service can be an important consideration when choosing a drug store. After winters of historic proportions, bad weather can keep even the bravest of souls from venturing outside. If you pharmacy does not deliver, or charges for the delivery service (a minimum of $5 per prescription is common) a drug store that knows you and delivers is indeed a blessing! Because many many medications must not be taken on an empty stomach or should be taken with milk, Ohliger Drug stores will even deliver milk along with your prescription. Now that's service!

 Same Day Service
Your local pharmacy has same day service. Your local drug store pharmacist knows his and her customers and they know what they need to stock. When you need a painkiller, you need it now, not in three days or next week. And when you have more than a cold, and your doctor prescribed and antibiotic, you need to start taking it before it becomes pneumonia!

 Is Bigger Better?

In this age of managed care, it would seem that it is difficult for small, often family owned and operated drug stores, to compete with the like of Wal-Mart and Rite Aid. The truth is that for the customer it is indeed a matter of what is best for them. Many people are thankful the family owned drug stores like Ohliger Drug are an important part of their community. Consider this: If you know how to choose and work with the real, live pharmacist behind the counter, an independent drug store is usually the wisest choice. Here's why: The average family of four is now spending more that $500 a year out of pocket on prescription drug. Independent drug store prices, such as Ohliger Drug's are often better. "Right in your own back yard" costs less for a number of reasons. With the large chains the never ending television ads to promote film developing, and "chips" and "salsa" are expensive. The money to pay for them comes out of the customer's pocket.

Know your pharmacist - And they will know you!
A corporate managed drug chain has many pharmacists, if a pharmacist from store Y is needed at store Z, or even store X... they must go wherever they are needed. For the chain store pharmacist it is difficult, at best, to even know which store you are at on a given day, much less be expected to know your customers! At a local, family owned drug store like Ohliger Drug Stores, the pharmacist grew up in the business. Tom and Molly's father owned the store before they did and their grandfather owned it before their father.
Who would you want filling your prescription, or your mother's or your son's or your daughter's prescription? Someone that knows you and your family, or a stranger who is in the store for perhaps only a day?

 Information and Safety
Everyone has seen the TV commercials that say the drug store chains have a computer system that will provide information to you about possible side effects and drug interactions. What they do not tell you is that pharmacists in the entire Unties State must comply with the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 - OBRA, which requires pharmacists to counsel consumers on side effects and proper use of medication.

A Bigger Safety Payoff at Your Local Pharmacy!
A discount asthma inhaler is worthless if you don't know how to use it. Pharmacists who do more than put pills in a bottle can help. They'll show you how to take your medication correctly, discuss the drug's possible side effects, and most important, warn you if the drug interacts with anything else you are taking, prescription or otherwise. For instance, the anticoagulant warafin taken with blood-thinning aspirin, can cause internal bleeding. A trusted pharmacist who will troubleshoot such dangers can save you both worry and money. You will get more helpful responses from somebody you regularly deal with face to face.

Ohliger Drug Stores - Just What the Doctor Ordered!
You are fortunate to live where there is an independent, family owned and operated drug store like Ohliger Drug Stores. When it comes to a trusted and reliable source for all your prescription and non-prescription drugs, you know how wise a decision you have made to seek them out and stick with them. The continuity and your peace of mind is worth more than a few scattered savings on chips and salsa! And if you are the type who can't walk into Wal-Mart without picking up a family-sized jar of maraschino cherries, a candy bar and a copy of the Inquirer, the free home delivery of your prescriptions could be just what the doctor ordered!
